Constealations was an exploration into commercial bag design. Utilizing both Esko's studio toolkit and Adobe Illustrator, I designed three stand-up pouches for three loose leaf tea flavors.
The logic: Constealations is a tea brand that caters to astrology fanatics. There are 12 different flavors, and each one is tailored to a specific astrological sign. For example, the Virgo blend is a calming mixture of lavender and honey to soothe worried Virgos. The Sagittarius blend is an energizing orange and ginger tea to boost any run-down Sagittarius. Finally, the Taurus blend is made from natural vanilla and peppermint flavors to help ground and focus a restless Taurus. I used Adobe Illustrator to create all of the artwork for the bag and brought the design to life with Esko's Studio function. The final result are the 3D mockups above.
The design:
Most tea packaging usually has a muted and earthy color scheme and illustrations of fruits and other plants to reflect the natural earth. While this makes a lot of sense and works for many brands, Constellations aims to be different. Stars are crucial in astrology, as astrologists use the movements and position of celestial bodies as a basis for their claims. Furthermore, each astrological sign has a constellation. I knew that I wanted my design to include celestial motifs and resemble the starry sky. To accomplish this, I created simple lineart graphics of the main ingredients to make them resemble a constellation. I also associated each sign with a color that was reflective of the ingredients used.
